Hi & Welcome to Mr. A's 5th grade sound page.

Sound 201 explores traditional musical concepts through the use of technology and other hands on manipulatives. 

During the year students will explore, experience, compose & manipulate sound through such topics as:
  1. exploring the science of sound (just how does it work?) 
  2. beginning to explore the use of digital recording technology,
    • microphones & good microphone techniques,
    • Digital vs Analog recording,
    • how sound is recorded and amplified,
  3. exploring music software (Groovy Music, GarageBand & Audacity),
  4. composing, performing & recording lots of original music,
  5. learning about, playing  and improvising on percussion instruments.
  6. learning & playing with melodic instruments
    • Woodwinds (flute, clarinet, saxophone, recorder, etc.)
    • Brasses (trumpets, trombones, french horns, baritone, etc.)
    • Strings (violin, String Bass, Guitar, etc.)
  7. Reel-to-Reel vs Digital Recording effects
    • faster, slower
    • backwards, etc.
