The Turkey Hill Middle School Library contains a collection of books, periodicals, videocassettes, CD-ROMS, computers and AV equipment that are available to all students and staff members. These collections are accessible via the latest version of InfoCenter, an automated catalog.

The Library Media Center offers students and staff members an atmosphere conducive to learning. Students may use the center to complete individual assignments or to collaborate in small groups to complete research projects. Teachers are encouraged to bring their classes into the center for research or book exchange purposes.

The computer lab can be reserved by a classroom teacher for an all-class lesson or used by individual students with their teacher's permission. Assistance is always available to help users with traditional research sources as well as electronic commercial databases and the Internet.

Using the Library

Teachers may reserve the Library Media Center for their entire class on a first-come-first-serve basis by blocking out the periods in the calendar books available near the circulation center.

Teachers may also send small groups or individual students to the center to work quietly in the computer lab or other areas ias long as supervision is provided when the librarian is out of the building.

Computer Usage

School computers are for use for school-related work only. Screening software is in place to help prevent retrieval of inappropriate Internet websites.

Students must have their parent or guardian sign the Student Handbook indicating that they understand and accept all school regulations, including those regarding computer usage. The handbooks are distributed to students at the start of each school year. Students cannot use the school computers until the letter is returned to the main office of THMS.

Circulation of Materials

Books may be checked out for two weeks. Renewals are allowed unless there is a waiting list for the title.

Magazines do not circulate.

Reference materials and yearbooks do not circulate.

Audio, video and DVD material must be signed out by a teacher or other staff member.

Overdue Materials

Fines are not charged for overdue materials, but students are required to replace or pay for lost or damaged items. Students receive overdue notices during homeroom, on a regular basis. Eighth grade students who have not returned library materials to THMS will not have borrowing privileges at Lunenburg High School until such materials have been returned, replaced or payment has been made for the missing item.

Any student who has overdue items at the end of the year will not receive their final report card in the mail until arrangements have been made to return, replace or pay for the item. A letter to that effect will be sent to the parents or guardians.
